Black Elders' Sanctuary

Souljourning for Truth Ministry (SJTM) is a spiritually grounded, trauma-informed space devoted to the empowerment and healing of elder Black women—especially those aged 60 and above. We offer a sanctuary where stories are reclaimed, grief is honored, and dreams are reawakened.
Rooted in the West African principles of Sankofa (“go back and get it”) and Aṣẹ (the power to make things happen), our ministry honors the enduring legacy of Iya Sojourner Truth, whose life reminds us of the strength found in dignity, faith, and self-determination.

Wish List

We are currently seeking the following items to help support our mission

Real estate or property that can be used for both housing and office/meeting space

A reliable van to transport women on outings and appointments

Frequent flier miles to help cover travel costs

Tickets to cultural events in the San Francisco Bay Area

While we do not treat acute trauma, we provide ritual-based, purpose-driven, and project-centered support that nurtures mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Through sacred gatherings, rites of passage, intentional creativity, and sisterhood, SJTM helps women reconnect with purpose, joy, and each other.

OUR VISION

To co-create a spiritually nourishing and socially supportive community where elder Black women experience:
  • Intergenerational connection
